West End Chili Cookoff Scholarships

The West End Chili Cookoff Committee is proud to announce the availability of scholarships to the children and grandchildren of Sea Isle homeowners. This year’s scholarships will be awarded in loving memory of two Sea Isle residents, Frank Reesey and Doris Skelton. Frank cooked at the event for many years, and Doris (and Terry) ran the front gate and the People’s Choice award for a long time. Both of these neighbors dedicated a great deal of time to community events and were loving friends to all of Sea Isle.

The application and instructions for the scholarship are on this page and the other Sea Isle pages. Sea Isle owners of record will also receive an email with the same information. Applications will be accepted until August 5, so that we can award the winners before they leave for school. Applicants must fill out the application, attach proof of residency (a utility bill is sufficient), grades for their last semester (high school or higher education institution), proof of enrollment in a college, university, or trade school for the coming semester, and a 300-500-word original essay to either Esther McKenna or Patty LaTouche. Our contact information is included on the application. The applicant must apply in person, and we will then conduct an in-person interview. A parent cannot submit applications.

Please read the application and instructions thoroughly. If you have any questions, please reach out to either Patty or me. It’s okay to DM me with any questions as well.

We raised a significant amount of money at the cookoff, and most of last year’s applicants have since graduated. We donated several thousand dollars to organizations, including Planters Bunch and The Humane Society (when a busload of dogs and cats was abandoned), as well as to local veterans. We have a minimum of $8,000 to give away. If you have college-age children or grandchildren, please apply!

Applications Accepted Through August 5th!
